Hello Out There…
***knocking on the microphone…testing, one, two, three.. seems to be working..***
Wow I’m completely surrounded by Texans here, now I know how Davy Crocket felt at the Alamo… I know not exactly correct, but it fit too well not to use it.. Well now that I’ve annoyed my friends from Texas, how about a peace offering… The other day I posted a little bit of personal wisdom (yes I know that doesn’t happen very often), that fits well with this theme. The comment was on a reflection in the differences in lifestyles, culture, and mentality between Texas and the New England area. Having grown up in Rhode Island and then moving down south for a number of years, I was absolutely awe struck by the differences in the people. Down in the southern states the lifestyle is much more relaxed, much friendlier, and much more personal. I remember the distinction becoming evident the first time I went into a quickie mart type of store. The cashier was a middle-aged woman who actually said Hi when I approached the counter. Not only did she say hi but she was trying strike up a conversation with me. I felt so uncomfortable with the situation; why, because there was another person behind me and the only thing that kept running through my mind was how pissed this guy behind me must be getting having to wait while this woman wants to talk to me. Well, not only was the guy not pissed, but he actually joined in on the conversation. It’s been my observation that Southerners are much friendlier to strangers and much more open than northerners are. Northerners tend to put a larger emphasis on family and less on developing and maintaining close nit friendships. To an extent I still find myself like that. Southerners on the other hand place a much larger emphasis on friendship. So to all the new friends I have developed over the last couple of months…I just want to say thank you, no matter where in the world you are from…
Now I think I will go over to a Taco Bell and see what all the fuss is that Chuck keeps talking about..
